WELCOME TO DAYTON POP WARNER CHEER!

GO TO THE REGISTRATION PAGE

We are excited to get this season started!  We have worked very hard from the beginning to ensure that every detail has been thought about and bling ’ed out, so every cheerleader has a great season. Cheerleaders are trained athletes just like in any other sport. Cheerleading requires strength, endurance, commitment, and trust. Our program and each individual involved work hard to provide an atmosphere of teamwork, sportsmanship, positive behavior, and guidance for our youth.

  • The 2024 Cheer season will kick off with our Spirit Week starting August 5th - August 9th at the Mark Twain Fields.
  • Monday - Friday 5:30 PM -7:30 PM. A parent meeting and performance will begin Friday at 7:00 PM.
  • Uniform handouts will be announced as soon as possible. In order for your cheerleader to participate in the camp and receive their uniform, the registration and spirit pack fee must be paid in FULL by fittings on June 15th, 2024. If you are unable to attend you will be able to get your gear from your team's head coach, if you are paid in FULL.
  • Throughout the season your coach will keep you up to date on all activities going on.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Casse at casse.huntley@me.com.  We are so excited for our upcoming 2024-2025 season. Let's GO DUST DEVILS!!

safety first!

Other Safety Initiatives

Safety First! represents the latest in a series of safety initiatives implemented by the governing bodies of Cheerleading in recent years. The outcomes demonstrate, among other achievements, a 50% reduction in cheer's total catastrophic injuries from 2005 to 2006*, and a low injury rate of 2.0 per 100,000 participants, notably less than comparable figures for popular women's sports like gymnastics.

Outlined below are recommendations compiled by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association to mitigate cheerleader injuries at all levels:
  1. Proper Conditioning: Maintain physical preparedness and strength for stunting and tumbling through exercises that enhance core muscles, upper and lower body strength, flexibility, and stamina. Incorporate both aerobic (running, jogging, cycling, swimming) and anaerobic (wind sprints, circuit training) activities.
  2. Exercise Protocols: Prioritize warm-up, stretching, and cool-down routines for every practice or competition, ensuring adequate rest.
  3. Proper Equipment: Utilize mats or padded flooring during practice until routines are perfected. Ensure the mats are appropriately sized and suited for the activities performed.
  4. Spotting: Engage trained spotters at all times during cheerleading activities.
  5. Knowledgeable Coaches: Confirm that coaches are certified in safety, first aid, CPR, and AED use.
  6. No Horseplay: Maintain focused attention during stunting and tumbling activities.
  7. Communication: Request a regular review of safety precautions, rules, and regulations by coaches and the establishment of an emergency action plan.
  8. Read Safety Guidelines: Encourage coaches to stay informed about the latest Pop Warner Rules Book, and YCADA (Youth Cheer and Dance Alliance) safety guidelines, and participate in the ASEP (American Sport Education Program) Coaches Online Education Training covering fundamental cheerleading principles.
  9. Know Your Limits: Be conscious of individual ability levels and avoid attempting advanced gymnastics or stunting skills without mastering less advanced skills. Always have a supervisor present.
  10. Treatment of Injuries: Promptly address any injuries and seek assistance from the school or organization's athletic trainer for proper treatment and prevention. Athletic trainers can also provide injury prevention education seminars and assist in developing conditioning routines.
  11. Concussions: Recognize that concussions, caused by head impacts or rapid movement, are a type of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Though typically not life-threatening, concussions can have serious effects, and timely medical attention is crucial.
